Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 20, 2026
Bass Caddy ("we", "us") makes a fishing companion app for anglers. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. It applies to the Bass Caddy mobile apps (iOS and Android) and the web app at basscaddy.com.
Information we collect
Account & identity
When you create an account we collect your email address and, if you choose Sign in with Apple or Google, the basic profile (name and email) those providers share. We store a unique account identifier and your display name. We never receive your Apple or Google password.
Your catch log
When you log a catch, we store the details you provide, which may include:
- Photos of your catch
- Location (GPS coordinates) and water body name
- Species, length, weight, lure/bait, and your notes
- Date and time of the catch
Location data
With your permission, the app uses your device location to show local sunrise/sunset and solunar times, fetch nearby weather and water conditions, suggest fishing spots, and pre-fill the location when you log a catch. You can deny or revoke location access in your device settings; some features will be limited without it.
Chat / AI assistant
When you use the in-app assistant, the questions you send (and relevant context such as your location and your own catch history) are processed by a third-party large-language-model provider to generate a response. We store your chat history so conversations persist across sessions, and we record aggregate usage counts (e.g. messages per day) to enforce fair-use limits and prevent abuse.
Subscriptions & payments
Bass Caddy Pro is billed through Apple In-App Purchase (iOS) or Stripe (web and Android). Payments are handled entirely by those processors — we never receive or store your full card number. We store your subscription status, plan, and a processor reference so we can grant access and manage your subscription.
Diagnostics & usage
We collect basic usage and diagnostic information (such as feature usage and error/crash data) to keep the app reliable and improve it.
How we use your information
- Provide and operate the app's features (logging catches, the assistant, recommendations, maps).
- Personalize guidance using your own catch history and conditions.
- Process subscriptions and grant access to paid features.
- Maintain security, prevent abuse, and enforce usage limits.
- Diagnose problems and improve the product.
- Communicate with you about your account or support requests.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your catch log or chat content to target advertising.
Third-party services
We rely on trusted service providers to run Bass Caddy. They process data only to provide their service to us:
- Amazon Web Services — hosting, database, and image storage.
- Apple and Google — sign-in and (Apple) in-app purchases.
- Stripe — subscription payments.
- Google Maps — map display.
- An AI/LLM provider — generating assistant responses.
- Public weather and water-data sources — local conditions (no personal data is sent beyond approximate coordinates).
Data retention & deletion
Deleting your account removes your profile, catch logs, photos, chat history, and related data. You can delete your account from the app's Settings.
Cancelling your subscription via Stripe also permanently deletes your catch log history. The app warns you and asks you to confirm before this happens.
We retain information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the service, and only as long as necessary for legal, security, or operational purposes after that.
Your choices & rights
- Access and update your profile in the app.
- Control location and notification permissions in your device settings.
- Delete individual catches, or your entire account, at any time.
- Request a copy or deletion of your data by contacting us.
Security
We use industry-standard measures — including encryption in transit and access-controlled cloud storage — to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect your data and limit access to it.
Children's privacy
Bass Caddy is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will revise the "Last updated" date above and, for material changes, provide a more prominent notice.
